Making Use of Extra Bytes
February 28, 2022Officially introduced in the LAS v1.4 specification, Extra Bytes is a mechanism which allows a developer to define extra data fields of various types. They are a means to extend the LAS format to add additional information to each point, literally adding extra bytes of data on a per point basis. Each point stored in a LAS file has a prescribed size per point based on the standard attributes that are included with each point according to its point data record format (PDRF).
Explaining the Terrasolid Modules
February 28, 2022GeoCue Group is a designated North American reseller and support center for Terrasolid software, a relationship we have valued for over 15 years. In this role we offer sales, support, and training services to Terrasolid users in the US, Canada, and Mexico. This has allowed us to develop on-going relationships with many of the top lidar data producers in North America, many of whom have been using Terrasolid products for even longer than we have been working with them, some for more than 20 years. However, lately we have noticed an increasing number of new Terrasolid users emerging in the UAV/drone lidar space who aren’t just new to Terrasolid, but new to lidar in general.
Basic LIDAR Breaklines in True View EVO
September 01, 2021We find that traditional surveyors who transition to drone-based LIDAR systems are often concerned with how breaklines can be added to models in our EVO post-processing software. The good news is that True View EVO contains extensive tools for both adding and enforcing breaklines in topographical modeling
Engineering vs. Cartographic Contours
August 26, 2021For most workflows that involve generating vector contours to feed a downstream application, EVO's automatic contour smoothing will sufficiently thin the contours to allow ingestion into products.
What is Point Cloud Classification?
August 18, 2021For many customers who do engineering surveying and are new to LIDAR as a raw data source, the concept of data classification is novel. I thought I would use this week's Bulletin to provide an overview of this important concept.
LIDAR Data Smoothing, Redux
August 11, 2021Safely use the EVO Point Cloud smoothing tool to reduce the noise in a LAS data set without a negative impact on network accuracy or point cloud conformance!
High Accuracy Drone Mapping - Project Control Strategies
August 05, 2021Guidelines on strategic use and placements of ground control points to conduct high accuracy drone mapping.

How to Choose a UAV Mapping System
July 30, 2021Some clients are very experienced in aerial mapping and know just what they want, others aren't sure where to start. This article will guide you on how to choose a UAV Mapping System for your needs.
True View EVO to CAD
July 29, 2021Turn rich, dense point clouds into vectors and gridded point representations akin to traditional surveying drawings that can be ingested into CAD.
Using TerraMatch to Apply Strip Adjustments to LIDAR Data
July 29, 2021TerraMatch uses the traditional approach to strip adjustment of identifying common tie lines and tie points in each LIDAR flight line and fitting these tie lines and tie points to minimize the dynamic errors between the lines and between separate lifts/flights.

Point Cloud Noise
July 15, 2021True View EVO - The Only LIDAR Processing Tool You Need
July 08, 2021One difficulty with unmannned aerial system (UAS) LIDAR and imaging sensors is the lack of good post-processing software. However, our hardware includes full post-processing software from the ingest of raw sensor data to finished or CAD-ready products! In this article we highlight the software tools that are available in True View EVO, illustrating why our True View solution offers the most comprehensive solution for UAS-based LIDAR/Imagery in the market.

Why LIDAR for Volumetrics?
June 18, 2021In a previous issue, we took a detailed look at the volumetric analysis tools in True View EVO/LP360. In this issue, I want to take a step back and discuss why you would use a LIDAR system rather than photogrammetry for this type work.
Remarkable Drone LIDAR Sensors: True View 6XX Series
June 10, 2021Over the past several months, we have seen a lot of interest and sales of our True View 6XX series LIDAR/camera (3D Imaging Systems, 3DIS®). In this article we take a look at the advantages of our integration with the RIEGL miniVUX and see why organizations like, Department of Transportation insist on this technology!
